Bed Bug Bites

Bed bugs are something that one commonly associates with unhygienic motel rooms. However more and more individuals are experiencing problems of bed bugs invading normal home and living environments. Bed bugs are annoying creatures that are in the habit of feeding on human blood. Earlier it was thought that bed bugs ordinarily occupy specific pieces of furniture like mattresses but these can be found even in chairs and carpets. Ordinarily the presence of bedbugs can be identified based on the bedbug bites.

Bedbug bites are basically red and itchy bites found on the skin. These bites are usually seen on specific areas of the body like the arms or the shoulders. These bites tend to be observed in the morning and can be seen in straight rows. Unlike mosquito bites the bites of bedbugs do not cause diseases. However these bites cause a lot of itching and it can be extremely irritating. These bites can cause people to constantly scratch the skin and this can cause breaks in skin resulting in further problems like infection.

Bedbug bites also result in allergic reactions among some people. By learning more about the symptoms of these bites they can be recognized and through timely treatment they can be prevented in the future. The bed bugs have sharp beak with which they pierce skin of the host and then inject their saliva through the break in the skin. The saliva of the bed bugs contains a coagulant that has anesthetic agents. With this the host does not feel the skin being pierced and the anti coagulant factors prevent coagulation of blood. With this the bed bugs can suck blood and the hosts do not realize that their blood is being sucked.

The bed bug bites also include several small or raised welts that erupt on the skin. These bites also tend to erupt in a clustered pattern. This is because the bed bugs may feed in the same location several times. The bed bugs include small bugs as well as full grown bugs. The full grown bugs feed for as long as fifteen minutes while the young bugs feed for around three minutes. If a person wakes up with bites every single day then it is an indication that your room is infested with bed bugs.

Some other indications of bed bug infestation include tiny blood spots that may be observed on the bedding material. Bed bug waste may also be observed on the bedding indicating a infestation. Bed bug bites may result in different reactions among some people while it may not have any other effects on other people. In some cases the bites may not be identified properly. Those going to the doctor may be told that the marks may be caused due to allergies or it may also be identified as scabies. It is also important to ensure that the cause for the bites is identified. The bites can be treated with antiseptic lotion or cream. Oral antihistamines may be prescribed in the event of an allergic reaction. It is important to eliminate the insect and the site of infestation.
